Automated RODI TDS and Membrane Flush

This is a bit overdue as I've had this running for a few months. This came because I've got annoyed with waiting to flush the membrane or for the initial TDS creep water to run through. I've also mistakenly left my RODI running for days because I left the unit in flush mode by accident.

I've posted more details here: http://www.irvinesworkbench.com/2017/08/16/automated-rodi-details/ (my website is a work in progress).

I posted a video of it in action here:

More than anything this is my excuse to play around with an Arduino and programming.

What I did
: The DIY automated RODI production using an Arduino some basic electronics like solenoids and flow sensors.
Why I did it: To simplify making water

Before Procedure:
  • Open main valve to turn on water
  • Flush the RO Membrane ~ 30 sec
  • Divert Initial High TDS Product water ~ 2 min
  • Make Product Water (Float valve)
  • Post Flush the RO Membrane ~ 30 sec
  • Close main valve to shut off water
After Procedure:
  • Turn on a switch

I'm also changing this around because I'm making a more automated saltwater mixing station. Updates to come:
  • The "switch" will be a "button" that initiates water production, then the unit will shut off its own power
  • The "button" will then be replaced with a float switch at the bottom of my RODI storage container, so that it auto refills.
