Hey Paul, I think there is a product called "GitRot " or similar for that frame. You use is on boats with a wet transom to stabilize and solidify. Would likely work well for your project.

I would let it dry out for a few weeks, scrub, and then recure it. Wait till there's not nitrates in the water and it smells fresh before reuse.

It is most likely your ph probe. If you want to check it, try sticking it in some tap water....it should read somewhere in the 7's...

There are always those odd possibilities...any metals in the tank? hose clamp, dropped something? Was the tank a former freshwater tank?? What about stray current from a crappy power head (I had that with a rio early on). How old is the tank? If it's not mature, that coudld be the problem...
