60G Cube re-do

So I moved back in March 2019, and I've had all my reef stuff spread across 4 temporary housing tanks in the basement ever since. Life became incredibly busy, and luckily time freed up a little recently, and was able to rebuild, and redo one of my main tanks prior to the move, my 60g cube. The tank is in my mudroom, and wanted more of a aesthetically pleasing or interesting look opposed to the usual 24x24 stand.

Paul gave me a sump months ago that is much longer then the cube, and I really like the sump so I designed around the sump. ( Previously i was a using a reverse engineered 29g bio cube as a sump as it fit perfectly under a 60g tank, and used the back side as the drain point.)

Made the stand 30" Tall, and with the tank being 25" tall due to trim that brought the top level to 55" which was the height I would still be able to put my arm in, and reach around without using a step ladder. I have a lot of scrap lumber around including cedar so I sourced it all from my piles. I'm still figuring out how I'm going to add/design swing doors on 2 sides of it, and what skins or other trims to use, and at some point add a electrical housing box. The offset side is also a bench top to put tools or whatever on.

Previously I was used to being able to view 3 of the 4 sides of it, and wanted to continue to do so, and the tank being in a corner, with baseboard heating on one of those sides, I also wanted to offset the side for that reason alone, but maintain a safe distance from the door that is also on one side of it.

It took 1>2 hours start to finish, oddly another 2 for the light hangers. I didn't take any pictures during that time, but here is where I'm at now. I also started a 110g planted discus tank in the same room the same day that I'm going to try to make similar in appearance as the cube stand.

Directly under the mudroom is the laundry room where I have my RO/DI, and the temporary tanks setup so I'm entertaining the sump system or a series of sumps inline being down there with a auto top off system, and add another tank to the mudroom on the other side. Outside the window is part of the perimeter drain system I'm doing so I may be able to just drain right out into that, and just pump up new water from the basement.

Some pictures.... Don't mind the light, it is temporary til I finish a shroud for my aquamedic MH/t5ho , and build a platform for the skimmer. The sump, and tank are on yoga mat. The full tank shots are same day I filled the tank shots.

Sump looks like right at home under there, glad you could utilize it. Thanks again for the awesome corals you brought by. Maybe one day, I'll be able to see it in all its Glory.
