Pretty sure this is Dino’s in the pic With the green stuff on the wall I have that in brown as well. Whatever it is, how do I take care of it? It’s covering everything

Got a better look brown fuzzy and bubbly here and there. Nitrates are under 5ppm phosphates are under .25 ppm

Looks like a brown algae not Dino’s to me. Brown algae shows up in new tanks anywhere from a couple weeks in to the first 6 months. As algae’s compete for nutrients and Kill each other off until they balance out.

How old is your tank?
Brush off and siphon our with water changes if brown hair algae.

Almost a year now. Everything is closed up and pissed. I had brown algae and a blackout helped with that too. I brushed it off and it just comes back. What if I do a 3 day blackout and then a suck out water change?

If it was dinos your no3 and po4 would be 0. I think it’s just brown algae.

my nitrates were between 5 and 0 lol no way to tell since its a drop kit. I feed every other night and am generous to the nem. I fed a solid 2 tsp of phytofeast last sunday the 21st too. its a 40 gal

I have the same problem but my tank is over a year old but my light blew so I bought a cheaper light until I have the money to buy a better one it was up way to high started it at like 60 percent I lowered it down and am increasing it by 10 every Sunday. Is that too fast? I shut the lights off and only put them on at feeding time for about an hour .Can I put the blue lights on or is it better to keep off like I’ve been doing? I think I possibly started recycling the tank because when my light blew a friend gave me a tank double the size of my other tank allong with a Viparspectra.I was also feeding way to much 3 times a day. I also read to buy no pos or does anyone have any recommendations on what to get? I’m on a budget so the cheaper way would be best for me.When I started I went through green hair stage which was a full time job practically getting rid of that .Now ever since I moved them into the bigger tank I got brown everywhere.
How long do I keep my lights on to kill this and at what percent rite now I turn lights on at feeding 20 percent of light for 1 hour then shut them off .Can I put my blue lights on or is this the same as having full spectrum on? I feed 2 times a day and cut what I was giving them by half.I would appreciate any advice!
thanks Bill

I suffered with dinos for almost a year. Tank looked ok before the lights came on,
by evening everything was covered in brown, stringy, bubbly algae. You could blow it
off every few hours and not make a dent. Didn't want to use H2O2 due to
anemones. Two days after putting a big 57 watt UV not a trace was left and its
been four months. The corals are growing like crazy. It is like a new hobby!
I highly recommend UV. Mine is inline with my return pump so very good flow
for algae not for fish disease. Watched BRS UV videos for tips on UV. Good luck!

Now it’s brown and hair algae I cut there food in half most keep the light on blue so they can eat and I scrub the tank once a week. Will a Uber light kill the brown and green hair algae ? Thanks for replying it’s been driving me crazy
Thanks Again
Bill

1) Scrape, scrub, remove, and vacuum algae
2) Filter the water of any free-floating algae (filter sock or canister filter)
3) Take a bare hose and vacuum the [very] top layer of the sand off - careful not to suck up any critters - rinse sand in RODI and fresh salt water and replace
4) 3 day black-out with UV
5) optional all-blues for a while

I just did the same last weekend I had cyano, dinos, GHA, you name it. So-far so-good. I'll know more in a week or so.

Sorry I mean brown algae over everything and green hair algae . Will a uv light kill them both .I was reading Brightwell and he said to combat bad algae with good algae I might buy the purple or pink good algae .

Here and there yes. I’m thinking of doing a 3 day blackout regardless. Any other ideas?
How do you do a 3 day black out?
