I just ditched my filter sock off my drain I’m sick of cleaning them and them getting clogged and backed up.

Will I regret this?

I used filter socks on my first setup 10 years ago...once I started to convince myself what a PITA they are, I went without and never looked back.

Mechanical filtration IS important, but socks arent the best way to go. I use the regular filter sponges where my water flows into my 'sump' area and it takes out any large particulate that makes it through. Rinse out the sponge with RO once a week and you're good to go. no more clogging socks...dedicated loads of laundry...it's just time wasted and not completely necessary, IMHO.

Never have never will.
You try to feed your animals then you stop the food from circulating. Macro and micro fauna need to eat as well

I have poly fill in a net, I just chuck it and replace every few days.

Ok I'm done with these stank a** filter socks for sure. My skimmer is already running better because my water level is more consistent instead of slowing down my drain more and more every day.

Thanks for the input!

And they stank!!
