Mame Skimmer and ATO thanks to @BiGGiePauls33

Hey man off to a good start! It was nice to meet you the other day. I see you changed from your 20L idea. As said above 40b is a great starter size. Might be a little longer to get the tank established with no sand, but long term I love having bare bottom.

Thanks! With the sand in my 180 I think I am all set with that. I think the skimmer is tuned it, however I dont have much of anything for it to skim haha.

I have been debating fish stocking for this tank and I think I'm going to go with:

Midas blenny
Royal gamma
Pepermint shrimp

I'm slowly stocking CUC but my lfs didnt have any trochus snails.

Current stock:

1xemerald grab
2xblue legged hermits

I'm going to backlog my updates

3 trochus and 2 blue legged supplemental feeding some seaweed but released that was ruining water so changed to flake food

Salinity: 1.023 ( as found out after recalibrating refracto thanks to dong)
Nitrates: 20
Nitrite:0
Amminia: 0

8/16 the emerald eater

The emerald crab was picking on the stylo. Removed from tank. Shouldve just placed in refugium temporarily, but we live and and learn

8/14-8/16 ish still fine tuning the ATO

I tested the ATO system at some point and when the tube was in the water it back flowed. Good thing I did a trial run. However I didnt think much of the salt water being backflowed into the ATO bucket. This will become important soon.

8/19 lets relax and be consistent

As you can see below my salinity is a little higher. No problem I say. My sensor is about to top off and lower it a little. My insomnia is kicking in and my ATO just finished kicking on. Firstly I realize it w3ssnt able to finish flilling because the reservoir and pump are too far below the tank. I go to measure my salinity. Its 1.05. Whaaaat!! I check 5x more...how could this be? I check my ATO water. My ATO is measuring 1.026... At this point I'm thinking Dong messed up with calibrating my refractometer. I check 5 more times and realize this is from when my pump back siphoned a bunch of water. Luckily just the night before I had created 30 gallons of ro/di water. I change resevoir and bring salinity down to 1.026. And I put the resevoir higher so it can actually fill the tank. The tube for ato is above the maximum waterline so i had forgotten that event occurred...now let's see how the tanks doing

8/20 how are the corals

So I`ve gotten a Diatom bloom. The trochus and hermits are working hard.

The stylo seems to have a lot of retracked pollops on the side where the output of aquaclear is coming from. I'm not really sure why. Usually at night I have a lot of polyop extension on everything but not even the birdsnest. One small tip of the many tips on the birds nest is a little brown, maybe diatoms? Also the lepto seems to be the only coral not showing okay coloration. It has browned a bit even though it's at the bottom portion of the tank

Par readings
Top: 250ish
Lower 3rd 150ish
