That doesn’t look like brown jelly. It looks like some of the tentacles have been torn off. If that’s the case it’ll grow back no problem. With brown jelly you’ll see a brown slime covering the tissue.

It sits near chalice so, could it be attacked at night? Another cause could be too much light. No idea

If that is the side facing the chalice, then definitely the chalice could be stinging it at night - chalice sweepers can go a few inches and are very nasty. In any case, something bad is happening where it sits now, so moving it is a probably a good idea. I think it will recover if it has no further damage.
