Hydrometer/ refractometer question

I know the hydrometer is know to be inaccurate but would it be possible for it to be off by .005 points. When I was setting everything I was being lazy and just nh used the hydrometer and I finally checked the salinity with the refractometer. The hydrometer said it is 1.025 and the refractometer says its 1.030 so would it be possible to be off bu that much? And yes I checked calibration with zero TDs ro water.

I was just watching a video where Richard Ross claims that even refractometers can be off by ±0.002. So .005 between a refractometer and a less accurate hydrometer seems well within the possible error range. Also calibrating to the zero point is not as accurate as calibrating to a salinity calibration fluid closer to the range you're actually going to be measuring.

Just like Joe said, refractometer needs to be calibrated before use. Every refractometer should be calibrated with standard calibration fluid.
