Hey guys, used to have a tank about 5 years ago. Got out of it because I couldn’t afford it...

Good news is that I’m back into it and I don’t even have to pay for it! My boss won a tank in a raffle and I’m the one who is in charge of making it look nice.

The tank is like a 35 gallon tank or so I think and was already an established tank but was neglected I guess (the glass used to be real dirty). The move went well and about 40% of the old water was saved.... the live rock still looks good as expected, new sand, but the pajama cardinal died and the corals look pretty bad! The water tests were good in my opinion and I don’t see signs of a cycle but I guess we’ll see if I see a nitrate spike.

I didn’t do the move but the water temps may have dipped and I think the old water was higher in salinity.

I’ll attach some photos below if you could hopefully help me diagnose potential problems.

All corals look nuked and look like they are nuking the rest of that tank in my opinion but you let me know what you think!

You should really have 0 ammonia and nitrites. If they are present then livestock is going to over pollute the tank.

Try adding some bacteria to help process that ammonia. There’s a few brands like dr Tim’s, mb7 I even think petco carries some kind as well

In a pinch BioSpira works very well and is available at most Petcos for bacteria in a bottle.

Salinity with the cheap stick on the side meter is showing 1.023-24

It seen that something is out of wack with the water parameter , maybe you can bring a water sample to a store to double check .

I think the pH cant be that low for saltwater tank.
I will use salifert test kits.

Yeah google says 8-8.4 [emoji19]

This tank is off to a real rough start!

I did not buy the test kit and now it’s what I have but I’m sure it’s relatively the same there... gonna try to find a LFS to test some of my water.
