Id rather not post a pic of my basement sump room as it currently sits considering it’s a jungle of wires and equipment haha

I’m shooting for a disease and parasite free tank, so i get all my fish pre QT and I’m also going to be QT my own corals.

in the sump/room (so far) I have a reeflo external pump, a reef octopus skimmer, a pentair uv, an ozoctech ozone generator, and the Frag QT tank. Within the next few months I’m hoping to get an apex, trident, a calcium reactor, then my lights... possibly an algae scrubber at some point.

I’m having a really tough time determining which light to get.. I’ve had my eyes on Philips, but now I’m really leaning towards Reefi duo extremes.. who knows in another weekI might want something completely different

Did you custom this tank? Curious on the single central overflow decision. What’s your backup plan if the overflow gets clogged?

I created everything except putting the glass together. The drain won’t get clogged it has two layers of protection, not shown in the photos, and is a 3” pipe.

Just made another order of fish... once the Frag tank cycles I’ll get my first corals! Cant wait to get this tank growing out....

The stand looks sturdy. Are you running the drain as a full siphon? As the mesh that is covering the drain starts to clog, are you worried about the need to constantly tweak the siphon? Or if running it as a full open drain, doesn't the 3" pipe produce a ton of waterfall noise?

It’s fully open and the mesh out measures the holes in the drain, so unless the entire mesh gets clogged, it works at 100% effectiveness. In other words, i never have to make adjustments.

the siphon is very powerful, if the top of the durso gets blocked in the slightest bit, the siphon gets extremely strong and pulls anything blocking it down with it. If i block the air inlet at the top of the durso just a little bit, the siphon gets so strong that my tank drains about 75 gallons in a matter of seconds.

If the pump is at full power, the water fall noise gets a little loud, but manageable. I have the pump at around fifty percent, which equates to around 4-5x turnover, and it’s not loud at all. I prefer the slower turnover rate because it allows the detritus to settle in the sump and keeps the water fairly clear.

Cool. Looks like you have thought through that. Add additional redundancy / fail safes where you can. In this hobby, disaster strikes when we least expect.
Keep the build updates coming!

Just made a diy filter for detritus, a 5 gallon bucket, filter fiber and a pump. Wow it’s gross how much was in there! All suspended, fortunately only a very little winds up in dead spots

Wow. That is going to be a great tank. How much extra support did you have to put in the basement underneath the tank?

Thanks! As long as I continue to have patience at least... I’m not rushing anything and I’m QT everything that goes in so it’ll take a while to start looking really good.

i have two lolly columns but honestly, it probably would’ve been fine without them. One side of the tank is on the foundation and the other is on the main beam.

I feel better knowing there is extra support under the tank. :) Is the outlet in the stand picture a GFI? Have you thought about a dehumidifier in the basement. From the pictures it looks like a lot of water volume in those open tubs. Might get a bit humid. Can't wait to see more pictures. Jeff
