I don't get it. Is Maiden's Hair like "hair algae" that they're selling for $60?

I remember I bought some a long long time ago and it spread throughout my tank and I was cursing that fish store for years.

I've learned a lot since then but I'm just wondering is it different from hair algae?

It should be different. It grows in tufts but like any algae, given the right environment it’ll flourish and take over.
