I tried to order a flame wrasse and was told by 2 stores they can no longer get them beacuse of the new law

Yea so it seems collection is temporarily halted until review, so you'll have to order them from places that currently hold them in stock. Places that rely on shipments won't be able to target hawaii fish until then

The collection is not banned, they just not issuing nor renewing licenses (which is for 1 year) until the review is done.

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii, a major global source of aquarium fish, has stopped issuing and renewing aquarium fish collection permits in response to a recent state Supreme Court ruling.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said in a statement Thursday it's discontinued the permits until it receives further guidance.

The state's high court ruled Wednesday the issuance of permits must comply with the Hawaii Environmental Policy Act, which requires an environmental study. The ruling said a lower court must determine whether recreational aquarium fish collection is exempt from the law.
