Red Sea Max Nano

Fins To The Left
I'm in the middle of the cycle with my new Red Sea Max Nano 20g. So far I'm using it stock, as-is from the factory. I have about 25 pounds of dry rock from Marco Rocks and about an inch or so of oolite aragonite sand for a substrate. This is a big departure for me because I have almost always had a DSB for nitrate export. I thought about even going bare bottom but I want to have a watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair if possible.

I'm not going to stock this tank heavily. Just a few fish and some LPS and softies/shrooms. I REALLY love this AI HD Prime light that came with the setup, it even makes lightning :).

In case you're not familiar with this all-in-one...it is a 20 gallon tank with a built-in overflow that leads to a filter sock by way of a dedicated channel. From there the water flows into a skimmer chamber with a decently functioning protein skimmer. Lastly the return pump pulls the water through a GAC chamber and some sponges and back into the display. There is a cool auto top-off, a feature I really like so far and the system comes with an AI HD Prime light. Mine came DOA so I had to wait a bit to finally get a replacement. I'm amazed by this light and spend time playing with it over the interwebs from my office at work, ahahah. It's fun to upload other peoples' settings and see what they look like and putting the thing into "storm" mode is one of the coolest things I've seen in this hobby.

I'm using this tank to teach my daughter all about reefing. She has been helping me in the setup and I pretty much let her do the reefscape on her own. The whole family is getting into it :).

By the cat, martini or your daughter?!

That looks sharp! I am trying to convince my wife to get a nano cube or biocube in the corner so I can move all her BTA’s into and free up some space for corals in my tank!

So far it has been fun setting it up. Always remember...it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. (says the divorced guy...)

I love the sharp look of the rimless cubes. Is your rock merely stacked or is it drilled together?

I love it too. There is considerable evaporation but the ATO keeps that in check. We used Reef Cement which is as fun as it is effective lol.
