Refug substrate or no substrate

Not sure if there was a post for this already. So I have BB with LR, cheato, and caulepra. No problem with controlling nitrate levels. Everybody has something that works for them in there systems or has had a varity of types of refugs used.

I am curios about what other methods you may use in your Refug?

My fuge is a 40G breeder with 2 exit for the water. Is in a room beside the DT. Water goes to the fuge (pump) and returns by gravity. The fuge is higher than the DT.

In my fuge I built an egg crate box that takes 70% of the space. It is full of Macro algaes. All around the box are different SPS and LPS corals as well as some soft corals. 1 Yellow tang and 3 damsels. Plus I have hanging out 3 filtration systems with Matrix (I forgot the name of those big acrylic tubes) and a HOB filter full of big Mangroves.

The tank has Skimmer located at the back (is a Red Sea Max 250).
