Waterbox Marine X 90.3

It might seem like cart before the horse making a build thread before I ever actually get a tank, but in my mind I’ve been “building” the tank for 6 months already. We moved across NH at the end of May and one of the first things I did was get my rocks soaking in warm saltwater. On two trips to Maine over the summer I gathered NSW and amphipods along with some gravely beach crud. This got chucked in with the rocks. A local meet up resulted in some scrapings of coralline algae that were also added to the stew.

Fast forward a couple of months and I started getting antsy. I decided to set up what I call a natural quarantine tank. Rock, sand, low light, and good food. That’s about the time I ordered a culture of white worms and got them going.

Once I was convinced that it was cycled I ordered a pair of Davinci clowns from Blue Light Aqua (forum sponsor). They’ve been in there for about a month and are doing great.

I also built a gravity fed mixing station that I connected my rodi to. It’s soooo much easier than working in buckets all the time.

Finally, I ordered the Waterbox through Fish Mike’s in Manchester when my wife decided she’d rather I spent my time on home reno projects instead of drilling a tank and building a stand. I’ve never even contemplated such a nice tank so I’m super excited!

Just today I ordered 10lbs of live rock from Gulfliverock that I’ll cook down in the basement for a couple of weeks.

Can’t wait to see this tank it’s going to be amazing

The tank arrived just before thanksgiving weekend and we set it up over the next few days. Seeing as I’ve been cycling the rock for 6 months and I added ocean live rock during that time, I was able to add the clownfish and goby pistol shrimp pretty much right away. Oh and I cycled the sand, and added microbacter 7 too. Everything has been going well tank wise. One of the doors arrived dented and they sent a new one right away. On a low note, my wife splurged and bought me a Red Sea reefwave25 for Xmas. Unfortunately the thing sounded like a Mack truck in the tank. I’ve returned it to BRS and they’re going to see if it’s defective or just wicked loud. Has me trying to reevaluate flow in this tank. Noise is a really high priority for me. Anyway, here are some pics. Note: I know some people would think my sandbed is too deep. I know how to maintain it so it’s not a concern for me.

I have a ReefWave 25 on the tank right next to my work desk. Definitely does not sound like a Mack truck. Hopefully BRS gets it worked out for you.

Yeah I hope so. I could hear it in the other room with the door closed running at 60 percent. I’ve always gone for Jebao sort of stuff and it was an inauspicious foray into high end.

I have mine running constant 100% less then 5 feet away from where I sit for 8+ hours a day, can’t hear it.

Nice aquarium. The wait is on, bring on the uglies. From my experience BulkReef is great at taking care of their customers. I’m sure they will resolve your noisy pump. May I suggest varios-pump? I’m using a couple of them in my system and they are quiet. I would purchase again. Take a look. Good luck

Do you mean for a return pump? I thought the wave makers from RO were called octopulse? I’m actually really happy with my jebao return pump.

Introducing Peanut the mini yellow tang. I told @Blue Light Aquatics that I was looking for the smallest tang I could get and man did he deliver! Peanut is a Biota captive bred tang and not much larger than my thumb. He was totally freaked out yesterday but today he’s out in my quarantine and eating. He’s hard to get a photo of but we think he’s awesome.

A fts and a whole whack of new corals. Getting into acros this quickly was not really on plan but after the long cure of the rocks coraline was growing well and my tester corals all seem to be thriving. I got some great deals and so far everything is doing great. I’ve also added a bangaii cardinal and a pair of orchid dottybacks. No real plan to add more fish or corals for a while as the tank gets dialed in. Never know though.
