Default FRAMES ? structures to support LR and coral

I have been thinking for awhile about following through on an article I read in one of the magazines awhile back about building structures out of PVC which have "shelves" and live rock attached to hide the PVC

Has anyone ever tried the PVC idea or anything other technique as a way of getting around the old "pile up a bunch of LR" concept????

If so, did it work? and/ or what did you do? Pictures?

THANKS
