I had bought these last year to reduce my nitrates, which it definitely did. In the meantime, I hit the reset button on my tank and now struggling with ultra-low levels of nitrates and I am trying to bump up the nitrate levels. These blocks have amazing amount of surface area for nitrifying bacteria to grow. The blocks are completely cured in my sump for over six month, the pate is about 3 years old. Other than for the nitrifying bacteria, the blocks copepods that you could visually see. I moved the blocks and the plate to another tank with active filtration running.
