Anyone know of any sites i can get ceramic noodles and lava rock for a filter

Can any kind of lava rock be used in a filter for biofiltration?
where can i get ceramic noodles cheap.
also is there any ppace where i can buy the fabric freshwater filters use for their coarse filter pads?

for the white poly foam filter.. I always used polyfil found in the craft section of department stores or a dedicated craft store.. Michaels or ben franklin crafts. the blue filter I don't know..

Lava rock is at Home Depot now... Spring is in the air. I use it as the "live rock" of my koi ponds.

The filter media can be had from TI in Framingham or All Things Fishy in Marlboro. It's not cut the way your link show it, but they are large 2' pads. I too use these in my koi pond DIY filter(s).

You shouldn't use Lava Rock in a reef tank though, should you? Not sure if that's what you're planning. I think it leaches all kinds of sulfer and other contaminants.

I'm thinking it's not for a marine system only because they asked for the "fabric for freshwater filters", but yer right Nate... Volcanic activity MUST create some nasties that'd leach into a system. Metals and phosphate would be my concern.
