Scavo's 60 cube

Do LEDs work as well?
I’m using the Ecotech Radion G5. I do like the color and the growth from. I do like the light. I just hate the dependency of having to connect to your phone to do anything with it. That’s all fine but the connectivity is not very reliable.

Might as well start somewhere...

Diving back into the hobby after about a 8 + year hiatus.

60 gallon custom starphire cube. This little guy was assembled at a club diy meeting back in the day. I acquired at an auction and it's sat ever since.

Stand is near complete. Going for a contemporary look. No lip. No trim. No rim.

Lighting is an XR 30 pro.

The majority of the flow will most likely be provided via DC return pump located in the basement @ the 75 gallon sump. Looking on pump advice. Looking at a Neptune 1500gph option.

Still trying to decide if I should drill and install a ghost overflow. Not thrilled about the exposed plumbing though. I'm leaning towards keeping it simple and drill the bottom, install center or corner overflow utilizing a durso with emergency drain. Is a ghost really all that?

I'd live to hear some feedback from you cube nerds out there. I'm on the fast track to catching up on the state of the hobby. All comments are welcome.

Best

Joe
That stand is

The tanks been up and running just under 4 months. The only major issue, that I slightly underestimated, was keeping that ginormous sump well heated. During a trip in early January (when it happened to be brutally cold) power was lost. The temp dip caused macro algae die off. It was a rough few weeks.

Thankfully most everything made it with the exception of a couple new sps additions.

While the system was on the mend, my mixing station was put into service. Thanks @thereefkeeper . As many of you know, the ability to change a major amount of water at a moments notice is priceless. A floor drain makes it quick and clean. In the coming weeks, I'll be storing NSW in this setup.

A couple new additions were made in February: Fromia star and a tuxedo urchin. My daughter was pumped. It's nice jumping back into the hobby and having a little protege to geek out with.

In more recent news, I made a longtime "bucket list" purchase this week - Blue Squamosa. Big kudos to Austin Aqua Farms! I've wanted one since seeing my first at New York Aquaria 20 years ago during a club road trip... or maybe it was turnpike pets in NJ? @Mike A might remember.

I'm a happy camper at the moment. Now I'll grow this guy up so I can justify my future office build .

More to come...

Joe, your tank is looking great !
The blue squamosa was at NY Aquaria.
It was a showpiece, you scored a nice one too.

It’s the one furthest in the pic

The Cube 60 is about to have a birthday. I feel my reef made it through puberty! Things seem to be thriving! Here are few closeups.
