Treating Ich

Hi, I currently have a 40 gallon tank with 2 small box fish that are presenting signs of ich (small white spots on their fins and scratching). I read that copper is harmful for them so I am looking on some advice on how I can go about treating it.

Thank you!

Make sure it’s ich vs velvet. You’ll need to remove them from the tank and let the tank go fallow (time period depends on the temp 45-76 days) abs then as stated you’ll want to treat with Copper Power in a QT tank

You have pictures to post? Ich looks like salt grains protruding from the skin

These are the best photos I could take.

I see this post is old, but my battle with ick was a one time event until making friends with a real UV sterilizer. Had poor luck with the "toy" sterilizers like green killing machines. I also had invertebrates in the tank and did not want to use copper, so stuck with Artemiss and Herbtana at the lowest recommended dosage. Be aware that to target ick, the flow through the UV must be much slower than if just killing Algae. And for the record I have had good luck with a coralife tutrbo twist, but if you value your tank and its inhabitants I would recommend something more substantial like a unit from Aqua. Got mine from All things aquatic for a super price!
