Water changes

Looking at finally getting away from using buckets for my water changes and rather placing some sort of water level labels for where I'm to drain to. Problem is ive been trying it with regular labels on the outter glass and because glass is 3/4" it can get tricky if not looked at straight on. Want to hear and see what others are doing

@Ortizdrz I built these to put onto my DIY PVC siphon. 20g 30g 40g and 50g. I used online aquarium vol calculator to figure out how beep each had to be to drain the amount of the water change I want to do. I just remove the top 90 degree back to back fitting with the stem.

I use this setup to pump it up to the tank to fill back up :)

I like this idea very much. So to fill back up you have a level marked?

no I just fill to the overflow where at the bottom of the teeth

Cpage with the best method. I mark the glass with plumbers tape, have it come to a point to show the bottom of the meniscus when draining. Same accuracy but his way takes out the guesswork. I dig it

I would love to install an automated water change system and I would envision having a button I would press that would shut off the return pump and then have a separate pump that would pump out a certain amount set either to a float switch in the sump or the tank it would be pumped into and then have the float switch trigger pumping in the new saltwater and have the float switch shut off the new saltwater pump turn off based on the float switch. Lots of automation but like the automation if set up properly and would just have to click a button to initiate the change.

I also want to adapt that with dosing pumps to do several mini water changes several times over the day as I have read those are beneficial as well but we'll see if that plan ever comes to fruition.

@Cpage101 Thanks for the idea , bought all the parts needed and made it today , this should certainly make things much easier
