Please read this post carefully if you are really interested in the tank.
Yes, after 14? 15? years I'm breaking down my main reef system as I'm moving to Indiana. My tank in Indiana is already running well and I've moved much of the larger corals and fish, but I still have some stuff to move. This tank will likely be available in late July to early August. The price is more of something just to weed people out that are not serious as I'm not really looking to make $ with this, what's more important is that the tank continue to see use. What's also very important to me is that someone can work with me on the time to pick it up. You will need a LOT of people (probably at least 8 - 10 to move this beast, I have suction cups you can have to help move it. Even if you are not ready for the tank now, you could store it for a while or resell it, I don't care. You might be able to get a few grand for it.
So, the specifics:
Size: 8 ft x 3 ft (front to back) and 30" deep.
Style: Made my Aquariums for You (closed many years ago). Starfire glass on front and sides. Back is painted black. Euro bracing on all sides, but no braces across the surface of the tank. Two large corner acrylic overflows with two large holes drilled (in the bottom glass) in each. Bulkheads that fit all holes and all tubing (large diameter Spa flex) will be included with the tank (including the Durso overflows). This tank was set up to drain to a sump in the basement, but you can set it up as you like. I believe the silicone used was black in color, but most of it is hidden by the wood work.
Canopy: A friend of mine built this canopy of Cherry wood. He was a good woodworker, but not a professional. Some of the finish is not perfect. The canopy has openings that lift up and away for full access to the tank from any side (see the photos). I've dripped saltwater and caused some corrosion on the knobs of the doors of the wood that surrounds the stand, you will want to replace these. Hinges on the doors are still fine. You will also need to do minor repair to the stand, but largely it is in good shape. The canopy was designed in such a way that any fish that jump will end up rolling back into the water. I've never had a successful jumper.
Stand: The stand is solid steel, custom made for the tank. Painted flat black. It is extremely strong and in perfect condition.
Condition: This was an active reef tank for more than a decade. There are no leaks, nor ever were. Would I trust the silicone if I were moving and setting it up again? Probably not.
I'd probably cut it away and redo it, but that's for you to decide. This tank has had coral grow onto it in several places, mostly on the overflows. I will not attempt to remove it all, but it should not be hard to do so. Or you could just leave it and let corals grow over it again. Won't hurt anything. There are some minor scratches here and there, but really the glass on the viewable surfaces is still in very good condition.
Lighting: The tank is currently lit with four metal halides. 2- 250 double enders, and 2 giant mogul 400 watters in giant reflectors. The lighting comes with the tank if you want, but it is old and everyone seems to like LED's these days. Take it if you want.
The sump is a Rubbermaid stock tank, 100 gallons capacity I believe. The sump and all plumbing comes with the tank. The pumps are not included, nor is the skimmer, though I may be able to sell you a similar one once the tank is taken down.
Live rock: I've posted a sale on the live rock in the tank for $1.50/lb, but if you want the rock and the tank you can have it. When I'm done getting the fish out I will put the rock back in the tank and it will be ready when we fully break down the tank.
While I'm only in town every-so-often, if you are seriously interested in the tank it could be viewed anytime in the next month or two. Please send me a PM with any questions, or, ideally, in the PM, include your PHONE NUMBER so that we can have a meaningful conversation and I can determine if you are really serious, or just deaming about a big tank. Any questions you PM me, if they are in this post I'll just tell you to look back at the post.
