75 gal RR return pump questions

For my the return on the sump I going to use a mag 7.I'd like a 9.5 but don't want to throttle it back!Does that sound correct?I'm also going to do a closed loop and I have a used but in real good shape littlegiant 4mdqx.The return from this is going to be around 1200gph.Is that to much flow?Maybe for a spray bar on the front side the length of the tank?.....OR! open for ideas. Thanks

Mag 7 is good for a return on a 75. I run one, and like it, it's just enough flow through the sump, but not too much. If your sump/fuge is on the small side, I'd drop it down to a 5, but you'll be fine. Your CL sounds ok too. I push about 1200gph through an OM Squirt and love it. It's just right for a tank that size IMO.

I'm splitting the drain in two.skimmer on one end fuge at the other meeting in the middle where the reurn pump is.Kinda fiqured the mag 7 was good.Thanks Matt

i use a mag7 on my 15g for a return from my sump/fuge. i have the return pump "T" off in the back of the tank so that gives me 2 outlets, one on each side, in my main tank. i do not have it "tuned down". the only restrictions are the amount of PVC tube and the number of 90's in the set-up. i was trying for around 400gph of flow inside the tank.....i think i have high 300's.

i would think that you would want the mag 9.5 plus your closed loop for flow within your tank.

I agree, I would think that the overflow could easily handle the flow from a mag 9.5.

As far as the question re; total flow with return and closed loop combined? It depends on what you want to keep, do you want high flow for SPS or moderate for less current demanding corals?

In general it sounds like a good set up.

I use a Mag 9.5 on my 90....not much difference from the 75 except the height. I think I can use more flow still....

On my 75 when I set it up I'm either going to use a quiet one 3000, or oceanrunner 2500...I really only want 350-500 running thru my sump....for flow I am going to use a gen X mak4 return to the tank split on two penductors...I like low and slow through the sump...

^^I also prefer slow flow through the sump/fuge.
