Anyone wanna help drill my tank?

Moe_K

Stabbed by Foulke
I've never drilled a tank.
I have an empty 125 that I'd like to equip w/ a closed loop.

I want to do this on either Sat or Sun.
I have a drill, but probably not the right bit.
Anyone wanna participate? I'll have cold beer ready and will fire up the BBQ if requested.

Oh, I live in Hudson - which is near Marlboro.

Moe.

I don't know where Hudson or Marlboro are, and if they're far away, but if you're doing it on Sunday, I could certainly be around to help.

Matt:cool:

Moe:

If you wanted to do it Sunday morning and don't get any better offers I could come down and give you a hand. I have a drill bit for a 3/4" bulkhead and one for 1" bulkhead. Do you have the bulkheads to put in? If not I may have a few of those too.

Craig

Thanks Matt & Craig!
We can do it tomorrow (Sunday) or I can postponse until next weekend. Whatever works for you guys.
I have been thinking about maybe drilling the bottom of the tank and installing a couple of PVC pipes that could be hidden by LR piles.
Didja see the thread on the ocean motion thingee? Maybe I'll install one of those under the tank. Marvin, Marco, & Bec have me thinking about water motion now.

Moe,
Could I come watch the process? I have a large tank in the plans I'll want to be drilling. I haven't drilled a tank before, but I can hold your beer while your drilling, as long as I can keep the other one free to hold mine... :D

Joel

Yeah, sure, anyone can come watch and cheer for the drillers.

Hey Moe:

Either tomorrow mid morning (by the time I get there) or anytime next Saturday would both work for me, just let me know what works best for you. Do you know for sure what you want to drill for holes...size, number, and location? I did see the thread for the OM unit....looks like a great system....gotta get over to bec's (or Marco's) one of these days to take a look at the install. Did you verify that the bottom isn't tempered? How about the bulkheads...do you have those?

Cool, let me know a time (so I can drop the son off to the grandparents), and directions or an address (I can find just about anywhere with Mapquest). Thanks!

moe,
i am busy this weekend but if you still need help next sunday i have time.
just did this one:

Don't mean to hijack but...
Scott,
Why put the bulkheads so low?? (Sorry, I'm new at this closed loop stuff) Are you planning on the sump return for surface agitation?

Joel

each bulkhead will have multi directional jets (spraybars) to fit behind the aquascaping
they were put low so they will be easier to hide in the rockwork.

heres the return:

Not sure on the number nor size of holes. I gotta research and plan a few things out. Also need to grab bulkheads.
Not sure if the bottom is tempered; maybe ScavDog knows.
With all these details to iron out, we better plan for next Saturday, huh? :p

How's about noon on Saturday? Will that work for you? Anytime is okay with me - feel free to suggest. I'm really imposing on you.

My address is:
11 Water St.
Hudson, MA 01749

Looks like next Sat might be the best choice. Time is up to Seasno.

Thanks, Scott. If you wanna stop by next Sat for the show, feel free.

BTW that system looks cool!
Thanks for the diagrams.

who's setup is that?
sorry for the hijack moe
No hijack at all.
Lets keep the closed loop plumbing thread going. Lots of good info, and I'm rather new to this stuff too.

Ok. Do folks usually put closed loop pumps under the tank, or do you try to mount them behind the tank, to cut down on all the unnecessary piping?
