My BTA is hard to feed.

I use silversides and it wants to eat, but the pistol shrimp and the sally light foots are kleptos! I'm going to try again shortly and this time I have weapons! I'm using the sprayer I got from OceanGuy (Tom) to keep the thieves at bay while it eats. Wish me luck!

Good luck. Do you only feed with silver slides? Will it eat other food? We have all sorts of scavengers and we find that if we feed the whole tank, then target feed, it keeps them at bay (at least for a little while).

I've fed it mysis before, I just don't think it's getting enough. The clown will offer it food as well. I'm just making sure it gets a good feed once and a while.

while on the topic, I just got a rose anemone yesterday...and was wondering how long will it take for it to settle in?
It's attached to the glass higher on the tank - not exactly what I had in mind, but I don't want to touch him for now - and tried to feed him but retracted when the food touched the tentacle...

Give it a couple of days. It'll move till it finds a spot it likes then it'll stay put.

Friggin' pistol shrimp stole it again. Who wants to take it from me. $10. Get it out of my tank!

Got a picture of him?

I'll get one soon for you guys.

Hey Mark,
The way I do it is to drop some food at the other corner of the tank (away from the anemone). Make sure that there is enough of them that some drop to the bottom. This will keep the shrimp and all the other kleptos busy for a while. Then I feed the Anemone. Also, try cut the silverslides into smaller pieces (maybe half or quarter). This will also make it easier for the bta to internalized it, and faster. Don't forget to alternate it with some fish food pallets.

Good luck!

ill take it
no need for pictures :D

if they dont

You can put a net or a glass bowl over it during feedings....the shrimp will leave it to eat then.....

Unfortunately that's not possible where the BTA positioned itself.

Just be wary of power heads. Traveling anemones can get sucked in and chopped up. Make sure the intakes are covered.
