Overflow material?

What is the material that is used in tanks with built in overflow boxes? Most of the time i see it, it doesnt appear to be like black acrylic. I have a glass holes overflow so i dont know anything about them. Where does everyone buy theirs?

The dual-overflows in mine just look like molded plastic attached to the back wall. The megaflow overflows have an outer wall and an inner wall. The outer wall has slits cut low, middle, and then the standard ones you'd expect to see at the top. Supposed to pull water from all levels of the tank.

It's some other sort of plastic, maybe ABS or something similar??

Acrylic or glass will work just fine for making overflows. Otherwise, IIRC you can buy those overflows through aquegon dealers (if you really like them, but then again IMO the design is quite stupid with the dual walls and inlets near the bottom of the overflow - we want to encourage surface skimming, that design works to reduce surface skimming.....)

yah im only interested in surface skimming, the dual wall isnt very functional imo, there would be pretty low pressure drawing water from the bottom i would think. Anyways im not talking about that style. Just the regular style overflows that go all the way to the bottom of the tank. Do you know where i can get those?
Like these http://www.maxummedia.com/120G/1b.jpg
and even better pic (post #15): http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/equipment/72009-anyone-ever-do-overflow-box-delete-mod.html

Those arnt just black acrylic right? They look like a thin abs type material, strong but thin.

Yup you got it. Those are the aquegon style overflows, or the marineland copies of them that are very similar.

Try asking a LFS or two if they can order them for you if you like them. Otherwise overflows are pretty easy to DIY one way or another.
