Would this work as sand?

Dunno...Ran across it on RC. Not much info on it. Just seeing if someone knew about this, and what thoughts on this might be.

Looks like calcite. Similar to the stuff used in my house water acid neutralizer tank. I'll take a look at the bag later.

Yes, it's probably calcite. I should be fine, but the edges might be sharp and might not be so good for things like sand sifting gobies, etc. Still over time it would get coated and rounded, and then be fine for them too. FWIW, before Southdown was completely taken off the market they were cutting it with calcite. I have some of the 'cut' Southdown in my big tank....seems okay.

Just checked the bag, made by Oldcastle it is calcite. It does have sharp edges but seems fairly uniform in size. It isn't fine like playsand and I don't think it would blow around. Any well service comp should have it. Bought this bag in Hollis NH about a year ago from Skilling Wells and Pumps.

Do yourself a huge favor Marc and just get the Carib Sea Aragonite and save yourself the headache I went through.

>Is this a fine sand Greg?<

I cannot tell for certain from the bag what the grain size is. Whether it will blow around or not really depends upon the amound of flow, and the design of your rock structure, etc.
