Clean filter bags

How do you clean those filter sock bag thingies that catch the overflow from your tank? I was using one for a while and was spraying it with the hose to clean it. Now it stinks and I don't want to put it back in the tank. How do I clean it?

soak it in vinegar

I throw mine in the washing machine, cold water, NO soap...

Rinse out the vinegar after? Is that ok for the tank if some gets in?

Sit it in a bucket of water and 10% bleach a few hours or overnight then rinse very very well.

If you use bleach, it may be a good idea to soak the bag in water with a double or triple dose of dechlorinator afterwards, before putting it to use again.
