Hello pico tank for first go

Hi thanks for the add. I’ve got a 2.5g former GloFish tank. I think the same as Marine land all in one. Trying for a mixed setup. Did some live and dry rock. Made a few mistakes. Fed Seachem phyto as a spot treatment and it melted the corals back. I guess it’s for broadcast only. Contains some preservative as it’s shelf stable.
Using tested well water which makes the dKH around 11 mixed. Going to switch to distilled. I’m six weeks in. No real uglies yet. Brown algae gets gobbled up by the hermits.
Curious what to feed the tank. I’m just using some blood worms and Hikari algae wafers. Feeding the corals hikari micro pellets.
The hermits fight when the rocks are clear of algae.

Also how long may a goniopora take to fully extend after adding to tank? Thanks!

In photos you can see the healthy Acans then after the melt from the phyto.

Welcome!
Reef roids are a great coral food I’ve been using for years. That being said be careful not to over feed. If it’s a 2.5 gallon tank you need to take into account the displaced water from the rock and sand.
I feed my corals 1/4 tsp twice a week and that’s for a 32 gallon biocube. You’ll need to read the directions and do some calculations. Feeding such a small system could do more harm than good in my honest opinion. Take into account the directions recommend 1tsp/5.69 grams for a 100 gallon tank.

If my maths correct that would be something like .113grams a week for your tank.

Thank you for the info. I kept feeding in part because nitrates did not go beyond 10 with API test. And I was worried with little algae on rock the hermits would eat each other. I’ve heard Nyos may be more accurate.

If you’re worried about the hermits I’d feed them a couple sinking pellets each to keep them happy. Also make sure you have plenty of empty shells in there as they grow they will need new homes to move into.
A variety of shells will hopefully prevent them from fighting each other in search of a new shell.
