I am not an electrician - Fluorescent problems

I replaced a fluorescent fixture with a new one I got at HD. It's the regular shop light 2-bulbs. The previous fixture was 1-bulb.

When I turn it on, it makes a hell of a noise for 20 seconds and then the lights turn on. When the lights are on, they flicker, in a "light candle" effect. I already replaced the bulbs but it didn't resolve the problem.

What did I do wrong dammit?

Is it on a dimmer switch?

no, it's on an intermatic in-wall timer

Magnetic or electronic armando?

Mags flicker a little... but only if you can see well enough to notice it...same type of people that can see a TV or monitor scanning.

I'm not sure, i'd have to check the package at HD. it's definitely not normal, too much flickering.

T-8 (one inch) or T-12 (inch and a half) bulbs ?

I've got a couple of cheapo fixtures that fire t-12's great, but the t-8's flicker like mad and occassionally go out...

You bought it at HD

Could be a cheapo from the Depo
