Is there such a thing... looking at design and layout of the rock before it's in the tank. To see how or what structures work in a limited area.

That's a really good idea for a product... But wouldn't it be almost impossible to make? Since every piece of rock has different demensions?

I know of such a software for freshwater aqua-scaping, you can try to monkey with it, it does have some rocks... good luck

You could always try hand-drawn, or photoshop

Never used it, but could Google sketchup maybe help with this? At least to some degree.
