Wierd yellow tang eating fiasco

I scraped some hair algae off of the edge of my overflow, and a few large chunks soon came shooting back into the display. My yellow tang, as usual, went after them like my kids go after cookies. He ate two small chunks, and 1 BIG one. After he ate the last one, Algae was coming out of his gills

After a couple of minutes of vigerous swimming, he got all of the algae out, but it freaked me out.

Is this normal, or should I take him to the vet

He does seem fine now

I had a yellow tang that ate cheato, he had cheato hanging out of his gills all the time.
Hey, I still have that yellow tang. I'll feed him some cheato in the morning and see if he still does the gill thing.

Thanks one eye, it is good to know that I am not the only tang gill stuffer out there

He is up and awake this morning and acting as if nothing happened, so I don't think there will be any long term effects.

I will be taking it easy on the tang algae binges!!
