Usually 1/2 cup of salt for every gallon will be a good start, let it mix (very) well, then add if needed. 1 cup at a time is fine. Try to mark your water container and salt container so each time the mix will be the same.
I have a Domino's Pizza cup that I use(I don't know if it equate to a real cup or not) for every 4 gallons of water. I use IO salt and it usually close to 1.025 SG.
You need to use a refractometer and dedicate a cup or something to measure the salt. After a couple of times, you'll get it almost spot on. This will also tell you if your refractometer need a calibration or the new salt batch is off when you don't get the SG you're expecting.
