Clowns...true or false? Tank raised or wild caught?

dedfish

That's Mr.Murphy to you!
I'd like to get a pair of clowns for my tank and new anemone. Which clowns stay the smallest? Do I want tank raised or wild caught? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks!

i believe true perculas are some of the smallest clowns. tank raised are better suited for captive care, are more "playful" when people are around, and help maintain the clown population in the wild. but i prefer wild because i don't like misbar and IMO, they look nicer (although you can get nice looking tank raised ones too).

what is misbar?
It is an irregularity in the colors of a clown. Thought to be brought about by very early mallnutrition, inbreeding, or just lack of natural selection. Here is a pic of my misbarred O.clown. Note the gap in the center white stripe and the dot on the tail. It is not nessecarily bad and doesn't nessecarilly get passed on to babies. I think it adds a lot of charactor to my female, but I specifically got a male without misbarring. Do watch out for head shape and gill deformities in CB clowns.
