Direct natural sunlight on the tank=Bad?

It would be a good idea for someone to place a tank under 1 of those tunnels and use the clubs light meter to get some par readings. That would certainly convince me whether or not enough refracted light get through the tunnel.

Also could the inside dome be removed for even more light. Replace with a piece of glass or nothing at all.

All you really need is a chainsaw and an extension ladder.....installation is not a problem.:pThat is a good idea about using the clubs meter to see what the output is.

I think that your summer sun strength vs. winter sunlight will vary dramatically

Very true.
But if you could get at least 4-5 months of free lighting and then suppliment it during the winter months it would be a worth it.Especially if you had a very large tank.As most of us really only get to enjoy the tank after work and when the sunlight hours are dwindling. It would be a must to have some kind of lighting just the see the fish/corals.That is of coarse if you don't purchase the starlight upgrade.

To bad you can't use it in the basement!

Wow that is less then buying an MH much less running it! How much did you pay to have it installed or did you DIY?

DIM.real easy to do if your handy comes complete with all supplies needed fo a complete job.
