Earthquake exposes pristine reef

A couple of good pictures accompany this National Geographic story (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/...leries/earthquake-island-pictures/index.html/) on the recent earthquake near the Solomon Islands. The quake triggered an uplift of approximately 10ft exposing large sections of reef.

Crazy stuff - just think of being there at the time - could have gotten some awesome frags.

Natural wipeouts happen all the time. It's the unnatural stuff that's throwing off the balance (human waste/runoff)

For every foot of reef lost in this situation, another foot of area that was previously not reef habitat has been raised up, and is now getting enough light to support corals.
