I have seen a few tanks with the rock structure sitting on egg crate material. Should this practice be followed if using a 2" sand bed?? Or is this just for rock only tanks??
Also beware that detritus can settle into the grid of the egg crate over time. Stirring the sand may not be that effective of getting to it if that’s part of your maintenance routine. Just some food for thought, you do the dishes.
I plan on using CaribSea specials grade. However this is a upgrade project from a 72gal which is still
running so the rock placement is going to be a peach I'm sure after new tank is cycled. LOL
You can try knitting mesh from michaels instead of egg crate. Less likely to trap "stuff", thinner, less likely to flake break over time. If your doing a decent depth of sand IMO I wouldn't worry too much about rock, just stack, and/or mortar ahead of time.
