Anyone looking for colorful zoas? I just added several more to this post. Trades are always welcome! Happy Friday!

Hi @logic, take a look at these corals. These are what I have available now. More new corals will be added as they become available.

Hi, lil bumpdabumpbumpbump here. Also, I’m looking for a frag of Electric Oompah Loompah zoas, and frag of Cherry Bomb tenius to buy or trade for corals above. I also have a couple frags of DS torches available to trade as well. Thanks

Im also thinking to culture my own phyto.
Is it hard to culture phyto? Are you using phyto culture kit or market or DIY?

I’m using a upside down two liter soda bottle method right in my sump. I re-purpose my used tank water to culture phyto after sterilizing it through boiling and diluted down to 1.016SG, tipped by Dong. Thanks Dong! I use a very small starting culture of only 4 oz and find that culture initial growth is very safe with natural nutrients from used tank water than if I were to add fertilizer from day 1. I usually only add very little fertilizer only after nutrients is depleted. I can usually tell when this happens visually by comparing pictures taken 24hrs apart with obvious color change. The snapshot below is an example how I visually see the color change over the course of the culture. Hope this helps.

I hang the culture in my sump like this.

I make an opening on the bottom of the soda bottle then drill a small hole in the middle at the bottom of the soda bottle, and insert a rope through from inside. This is the strongest part of the bottle and is perfect for suspending it upside down. The hole is convenient for pouring culture in and out and is usually covered with plastic food wrap to keep culture clean.

I would assume the culture started very light green then more green as the phyto concentration grew over time. Am i correct? How many hours of lighting in a day? I saw a table lamp can get the job done which is nice!

Thats correct. I edited the pics with BIG RED fonts so I can see all the pictures at once for density comparison and I can recognize the culture maturity with ease. For example, “2B24” simply means as follows: 2=culture #2, B=day 2, 24=24hrs since culture begins. This is more or so for me to understand the specie in more details and how it reacts to fertilizer and when fertilizer is used up. This is critical since I just want to feed my tank live phyto and not the excess culture nutrients which will elevate my tank nutrient levels unpredictably. If cultured correctly, the live phyto will start consuming and lower the tank nutrients when dosed and in turns constantly feed the tank inhabitants. The extras will be removed by the skimmer. The light is ON from 10pm-10am. It’s my fuge/sump light. It’s just a regular 6500K LED bulb nothing fancy. I’ve tested once for nitrate and phosphate levels on my harvested culture after letting it settle a few days in the frig and sampled the clear water at the top with Hanna checkers. Nitrate was zero, phosphate was 0.02 which is low enough to be considered neglectable by the time it’s diluted in my tank.

Hi everyone, I just added 4 new frags up top. See post #3 above.
