Quarantine question

So I've been holding a friend's fishes in quarantine and leaving his tank fallow, but as I stopped by his place yesterday to check on his tank I noticed there were 2 very small hectors gobies both must've been less than 1/2" each. Question is do I catch them and restart the timer ?
For context he has a 180gallon tank , and am helping him qt given he purchased fishes from what should've been a trusted qt source to him , unfortunately the fishes were sick and some of his fishes passed due to this. His tank currently has a 25 watt uv running, i just don't know if these small fishes would make it or break it lol

What where they sick from? I have never QT'd even though I really should but if the issue is/was ich if there's fish still in the system it wouldn't resolve the ich issue.

Yes. They must be removed. Clock doesn't start until the tank is completely fishless and fallow. May also be prudent to treat the tank with H2O2 or other meds depending upon what got in. Fallow has no effect on uronema
So with uronema it's unfortunately something where he just can't have fish prone to the disease , correct ? It's my understanding it will forever live in the system. As for the system I plan on treating it with the ruby reef rally

At this stage I am treating for everything, his fishes had black ich and then bacterial infection

Black ich is most likely flukes. Can treat with Prazi in the QT tank and they will die out in the DT during the fallow period

So this journey taught me quite a few different lessons. And was quite an eye opener, ive always purchased already qtd fishes myself but since this occurred to my buddy although part of it was his fault. I took upon and setup my own qt. Im no expert at this but so far it's been a great addition

Quarantine is always a tough subject. While I do think it is a good idea, it is not practical. You go through all this trouble to do it to keep things like ick out of your system, which will work. But unless you plan on quarantining EVERYTHING you ever add to your tank then it is a waste of your time and effort. Along with every fish, you are going to have to quarantine every snail, crab, and frag in a fishless system for 60+ days.

Sucks and isn't ideal. I personally only quarantine fish. The way I see it is as if I bring a new fish and that fish start showing symptoms a week from introduction I rather catch that in the qt where I can help em , rather than it being introduced to the rest of my fish in the display. Best to lose 1 than to lose more in display. Although I strive for not losing any.

Ich issue also least of the worries , while it sucks to have fishes with strong immune tend to fight it off. I worry more about the rest of diseases that can rid a full tank in few hours

I might start QT'ing fish now that I have a spare 10 gallon AIO setup after plumbing in a different tank. I had planned on keeping it once I clean it up more for a hospital tank but I might as well make it a QT and Hospital tank and break it down and set it up on an as needed base...
