strontium

whats everyone's opinion. Do you need to supplement for this or is it a waist of time & $. let the water changes handle it or not?

Definitely test before dosing but according to an article by Randy Holmes-Farley I read our target is 5-15 ppm. Water changes should take care of it depending on the salt used. In my case however I just recently tested it and found my strontium level to be on the low side of the 0-3 ppm range. I was surprised by this because I do weekly 10% water changes with TM salt which supposedly has 10 ppm according to the salt comparison chart in another recent thread. I'm going to slowly bring it back up and see what happens.

There are IMO/IME no good hobby test kits for Sr. I don't really think it's all that important in a reef system. It seems to be able to substitute for calcium in some coral skeletal material, but this is likely just because chemically it 'looks' so much like calcium that it 'pops' into the site as calcium is normally being deposited.
