Weekly challenge "NEW" (Photographing Fish)

That does work, Daire. But you want the white item in the tank under the lighting. If it is outside of the tank, you'll still get close, but not totally the same.

No idea what I did to get this good of a pic, but I thought I'd share any way.:)

I'm still trying to get a decent shot of my new Naso. He's just about finished healing from the Tang beating he took upon introduction to the reef.

Let's see some wonderful fish pics from a point and shoot without a sports mode.
Try my Nikon CoolPix 4300. :p

Now you're talkin'. The Coolpix 4300 is great for lots of things, but not action shots. Macro shots are a real crap shoot. Because most of your shots are crap. For fixed subjects, I always take at least 4 shots at varying focal distance, because I can't predict which will be best. And a tripod helps.
For fish, it's a real problem. A tripod gets in the way. I've used the "follow the subject" tip, but it's still very hit or miss. Here's an example from http://www.bostonreefers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41864. I'm not at all satisfied with the focus, but it's the best of 20-30 attempts! It all comes down to where you want to allocate scarce $.

Although it goes against what everyone feels, including me, sometimes you get a decent pic with a flash. This guys moves too fast and always seems to hide, so I tried it with my p&s.

Just thought I would thank everyone who has contributed to this thread, and especially to Greg for coming up with the idea and making it happen! This is great stuff!!

Blenny

This one was a true miracle. This fish is so fast I can never get him but I took the tip of following the fish and when he turned around it worked:)

Here is your Midas Gina!
