Anyone successfuly keep sps without ca reactor?

Nancy,

You have to drip kalk solution(mixture) into the tank water slowly as it has a PH of like 13 or maybe higher, not sure.
So say your 29 gallon drops a few inches in like 3 days.
Then you dump like 2 gallons in to make up for it.........not good.Your top off (ATO) will just top of when ever the tank calls for it.This will only alow say maybe a quart of kalkwater mixture to your tank over the coarse of a day.

According to Randy, water will take Kalk at about 2 teaspoons per gallon. Any more and it will start to percipitate out of solution. Adding vinegar as well can allow more Kalk to be dissolved but that gets a little involved more so than necessary.......

A little off topic.
But FWIW Mike,I also heard Randy mention dripping kalk can lower Magnesium levels as you did.

I was just referring to dedfish's post about the concentration levels......most people think you can put a lot more into solution than you really can and they just end up wasting it. Two teaspoons per gallon doesn't seem like all that much but that is all it will absorb....yes Randy did mention the possibility of reduced Mag levels as well but it seems like it is somewhat debatable....

My readings and corals

Thanks everyone! I really like what I have and want to try and keep it healthy. I just took all of my readings and some photos so you can see what I have in my tank that needs taking care of....
Cal 400 (API Reef Master Test Kit)
KH 9 ( API Reef Master)
Phosphate 0 (maybe 0.5) (API Reef Master)
Magnesiuum 1250-1300 (Seachem Reef Status)
Alk 1.7- 2.8 (Normal , Light green) Marine Aquarium
PH 8.0-8.6 Hard to tell , looks different in different light (Marine Aquarium)
High Range PH 8.2 on this one for sure (API)
Nitrate 0 (API)
Salinity 1.025 other number on right 35 (Refractometer )
Temp 77.9 or 78.7 depending on which one I beleive

Now for some photos . I know everyone likes those :) I could have improved these but only cropped and downsized.

everything looks very healthy nancy. I would keep up what you are doing if it is working. You may need to change in the future, but for now it is working.

Thanks, I thought they all looked pretty good. I just want them to stay this way. I don't plan to add anything else to this aquarium and if they grow to large I plan to move some to my 110. Everything should be the same in it with the exception of more fish and brighter lights. Thanks for everyone's help.
Nancy
