ATO pump question

I am building a DIY ato for my red sea max. Wanted to know your comments/opinions about Maxi Jet 1200/ Maxi Jet 900 as a submersible pump (in utility mode)..

I have to pull the water vertically for about 4-5 feet.

I not so sure it will "pull" the water up, however it will "push" it just fine. I use a 400 to transfer water from my barrel to the tank when I do waterchanges. Look into an aqualifter, most ATO's use these and they will pull water up a few feet. I wouldn't think you would need that much water volume if it's being monitored/controlled all day. My JBJ/aqualifter combo runs a few times an hour for about 30 sec each time fwiw.
