BrainFart! How does this faucet adapter work?

I'm using a screw in faucet adapter to mount a Typhoon 3 RO/DI unit and I can't figure it out. The adapter is mounted in the faucet but how does one attach the feed hose to it? The adapter has the standard screw in part, but ther's a hose barb to attach the feed and a spring loaded pin. Only pulling the pin will force water out the barb fitting, but it's spring loaded so it has to be held.

After banging my noggin for 5 minutes I couldn't take it and AWI. The fitting is pressure activated.
