what is the correct way to use a dremel to trim out dead spots on a monti cap so that it may grow back and not cause further damage in the process.or should i use something other than a dremel?i cant get to the back or underside very well with the cutting wheel or any of the other bits provided due to lack of space.will cutting out from the top prevent re-growth?this is new to me and i want to do it correctly--thanks

I don't know about cutting dead tissue away.
But I will tell you that I snap pieces off my orange cap all the time cleaning and it has no problem regrowing.
Even the pieces that land on the rock and stick in the crevasses begin growing.

You dont need to cut out any dead spots unless the dead areas are expanding, the coral will regrow over it as long as you keep it free of detritus and algae. If you get algae growing on the deadspot just cover the spot with superglue. You will not get growth on the underside unless its getting light there. Often caps will grow in ways that shadow the lower portions and the lower portions will lose tissue.

If the dead area is expanding you will need to excise that portion.
