Mixed Reefer

Hi everyone, new to Boston Reefers. I started my first aquarium ever recently. It’s a Inovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 20 gallon. I have so many questions being new to the hobby. My tank has been running with live stock about two months. Everything is doing well, it all looks happy. Here’s. List of my livestock and corals.

I noticed in the back compartment before my pumps I have a lot of allergy growing with something white and stringy. How often do you clean these back compartments? Look at photo I attached. Display is super clean.
Second, I’m using Marine Pure Spheres Biomedia . My local fish store gave me 4 of these balls when starting my tank. How many should I be using for a 20 gallon? I could definitely fit at least 6 more. Would this be something I should do to make my system more stable?
