Pics of my new Epoxy faux Sandbed...

Newbie ALERT!

If enough interest, I will post detailed instruction. The technique and or materials involved was/where deliberate. I was trying to achieve and avoid the following:

ACHEIVE...

-Realism
-White sand
-semi-smooth
-uniform grain
-relatively level.

AVOID...

-Fake (duh.)
-Muddy appearance
-Cracking
-excess weight
-sand shifting
-bacteria accumulation

I think it was a success. The tank is elevated 1.5" (fan cooling) and will remain that way until Thurs. At that time I will brush excess sand and test. The whole process took about 6 hours. Not allot of $$

Thanks!! Steve.

These are sort of in order...

who's bum? ;) j/k

I'm glad it worked for you. I thought I saw a thread about this on RC, and the putty or whatever they used expanded and cracked the bottom glass of the tank and ruined it. The only thing with that is, it will eventually cover with corraline and you'll have purple sand.

My wife (couldn't resit!)
I was aware of the cracking and prepared for it (Epoxy gets VERY hot due to a chem reaction). I applied several very thin layers in intervals to keep the heat down and fan cooled with the tank elevated. The corraline? I hope so! Thanks!! Steve.

Is there a benifit to do that? I am just wondering.
