Sponge Dissolving and other random behavior...please help pinpoint!

I have a sponge in my nano tank that looks like it is dissolving! It is similar to this picture usually called something like a purple photosynthetic sponge or something... http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu79/SXM50/276f5c49.jpg



It is basically becoming opaque in areas dissolving is really the best word of description.

I also noticed my regular shrooms are not enlarging as much as they used to and my ricordea mushrooms look horrible...small and shrivelled.

All of the normal parameters seem fine, PH, Ammonia, Nitirite, Nitrate, Phosphate, Salinity is spot on and temp is 78-79....I have not made any major changes to the tank in weeks.

I did have a clown jump last week into the back chambers which is odd...

Any thoughts?

If the sponge was exposed to air at any point its dying. Air gets trapped in its cellular structure and breaks down.

Crap, that potentially explains the sponge - I did a large water change a week or two ago and it was definitely out of water for a second because its up really high.
