Just want to add my $.02 here - I've been in and out of the hobby for a number of years. Have had Halides and SHO, and my current tank has LED. True story - it's a 12 gallon biocube (actual water volume more like 10 gal), no skimming - just a chiller/heater to keep temp stable, and about 150W of Cree LED - blue, white, purple in a modified hood. The growth of all corals is ok. Not stunning but ok. I have lots of Acropora and some LPS. here is the kicker - no water changes in over 7 months (since my son was born). Just replace the auto-top-off water bottle, and it keeps on humming. In my book, can't beat LED

I went from t-5's to AI Vega Color and no complaints here! Had to set intensity low for a few weeks but AI makes this easy with coral acclimation setting. My tank is happy with LED
