250 W bulbs on a 400W ballast?

Hi guys....

Is it possible to run 250W HQI bulbs on a 400W puilse start ballast?
What's the downside ?

Just kidding but the bulbs could definatly blow up.It should not be done.

yea, you can't do that.

Ballast and bulb need to be matched, otherwise your looking at damaging the bulb, ballast, both, and or starting a fire. Don't try it.

I tried this by accident a while back. The bulb will fire, but then will only stay lite for a short while. I'm not sure if it damages the bulb or not.
